Drug manufacturer Pfizer announced that it is pausing distribution of its anti-smoking medication, Chantix, after elevated levels of cancer-causing agents called nitrosamines were found in the pills.

At this time, Pfizer has not announced which nitrosamines were found in Chantix or how they got into the pills.

 

Chantix is a prescribed medication that aids with quitting smoking. Pfizer halted production of the drug after elevated levels of carcinogens were found in the pills.

Currently, the FDA has not issued a recall on Chantix. Pfizer has temporarily halted the production and distribution of the medication out of an abundance of caution, and plans to thoroughly investigate this issue.

Chantix is a prescribed medication that aids with quitting smoking. It is approved by the FDA for use in adults ages 18 and up.
