ReNu with MoistureLoc® Recall
In response to a Bausch and Lomb recall, the Law Offices of Peter G. Angelos is now investigating product liability claims against Bausch and Lomb. The contact lens product, ReNu with MoistureLoc® has been reported to cause corneal ulcers.
Bausch and Lomb announced on April 13, 2006 that they would be recalling one of their contact lens cleaning products, ReNu with MoistureLoc®. Bausch and Lomb has decided to recall ReNu with MoistureLoc® because there have been numerous recent reports of a serious eye infection linked to the contact lens product.
Since last summer, there have been 186 reports of Fusarium keratitis, a fungus that is usually found in soil, among ReNu with MoistureLoc® users. Although Fusarium keratitis can be treated if diagnosed quickly, if left untreated, Fusarium keratitis can cause loss of sight and corneal ulcers.
ReNu with MoistureLoc® is dangerous because Fusarium keratitis is a serious eye infection. Of the 186 reported cases, at least 8 ReNu with MoistureLoc® users required a corneal transplant after getting Fusarium keratitis.
Bausch & Lomb has acknowledged that it first learned of the problems with ReNu with MoistureLoc® as early as November 2005 when it was notified of the fungal infections by Hong Kong health authorities. Bausch & Lomb suspended sales in Asia of ReNu with MoistureLoc® as early as February 2006, yet it left the product on US shelves and continued to expose US consumers to this dangerous fungal infection for two months after that.
If you are or have been a ReNu with Moisture Loc® user you should immediately stop using the product and contact an ophthalmologist if you are experiencing any of the following Fusarium keratitis symptoms:
- Pain
- Decreased Vision
- Blurred Vision
- Redness
- Sensitivity to Light
- Eye Discharge
- Eye Irritation
- Excessive Tearing
Of all 186 cases, the most common thread between all of them is that all of the people diagnosed with Fusarium keratitis are either ReNu with MoistureLoc® users, or users of a generic product, also made by Bausch and Lomb, with the same ingredients.
If you are or have been a ReNu with MoistureLoc® user within the past year and have suffered from Fusarium keratitis or any other eye infection, contact the Law Offices of Peter G. Angelos.
You may be able to receive compensation for your losses, and our product liability attorneys will work hard to recover the compensation you need for your ReNu with MoistureLoc® injuries. Contact us today to schedule a free initial consultation.
